Unlike any other, the Girijatmaj Ganpati Temple is located inside a Buddhist rock-cut cave — Cave No. 7 of the Lenyadri complex, dating back to the 1st–3rd century CE.

🚶‍♂️ To reach the sanctum, one must climb 307 stone steps — a sacred ascent symbolizing the journey from the material to the spiritual.

According to sacred legends, it was at this very spot that Goddess Parvati performed intense tapasya (penance) for 12 years, longing for a divine child.

🙏 Pleased with her unwavering devotion, Lord Shiva granted her a boon — and thus, Ganesha was born here as “Girijatmaj”, which literally means “Son of Girija (Parvati)”.
